Combined Policy Committee You will recall that last fall we received from the State Department a draft Aide Memoire proposing the re-activg-tiongj^jthe Combined Policy___Commit_teewith expanded~terms~~bf reference. On December 9, 1953, the Cabinet approved Canadian participation on the Committee, along the lines proposed by the United States. V/e have now received the United States Aide Memoire in final form and five copies are attached. It.differs from the draft in two respects; the first is merely procedural, the last paragraph has been reworded so as to ask for our agreement rather than our comments. The second, which will be found in paragraph 5> has the effect of proposing that the Combined Policy Committee be reactivated by the other two Governments, Canada and the United Kingdom, formally approving the proposal in a reply to the Aide Memoire rather than by calling an early meeting of the Committee to approve its new terms of reference.
