Q - , c3l o f Staff Combined Policy Committee fc In your letter of October 15 you informed me that you were in agreement with the United States proposal to reactivate the Combined Policy Committee with expanded terms of reference. This matter has since, as you know, been discussed with senior officials of the United States administration. I expressed the view that the Canadian authorities would welcome the proposal, and went on to state that we hoped that the question of Ganadian membership on the Committee, reactivated along the lines proposed, could be settled at the forthcoming meeting in Paris of the Canada-United States Committee on Joint Defence. 2. In order to carry this matter forward, we have drafted a memorandum to Cabinet. As we would like to attempt to have this matter placed before Ministers prior to their departure for Paris, we should be most grateful to have your comments as soon as possible. 3. As the possible revised version of this memorandum will be the paper to be considered on the subject by the Defence Panel at its meeting on December 3, it would be particularly appreciated if we could have your comments by next Friday noon.
