ADDRESS REPLY TO
CHAIRMAN
CHIEFS OF STAFF,

9 October, 1958

OTTAWA.

Chairman,
Chiefs of Staff
Combined Policy Committee
Proposed Reactivation
1.
The letter at Flag "A" with External telegrams 1868
and 1869 dated 13 August and telegram 1890 dated 15 August
attached, concerning the proposed reactivation of the Combined
Policy Committee, was passed to you for information.
2.
The telegrams referred to above have been reviewed by
the Chiefs of Staff who concur in the proposed reactivation of
the Committee and in the draft reply at Flag "B".
3.
The Deputy Minister, on the other hand, questions the
inclusion of the President of AECB and the omission of the
Minister of Defence Production in the membership of the Committee
as he feels that AECB would have only a very narrow relationship
to the large number of questions that would be dealt with by this
Committee, He points further to possible complication to this
reactivation by the proposal for a Canadian-US Committee of Ministers
which, because of duplication of Mnisters on two Committees on the
Canadian-US sides, might have some reaction on the tripartite side
where the UK is present.

4.

Your comments would be appreciated,

for Chai
End.
