I am attaching for your comments a^copy of a
letter which I propose to send to Mr. Sanderson in London drawing his attention to Northag letter 2353G4 of 5 October,
1959, proposing a meeting1 among-users of SAS depotsTS Northag.
and 2 ATAE to discuss support responsibilities.
If Canada is to share a portion of the costs *
of supporting the Werl depot as stated in paragraph 11 of Northag's
letter, you m i l , I believe, agree that we should participate in .
any discussions on the manner in which this is to be done and the
elements that are to be included in the annual budget.
We should do this, I think, notwithstanding the .
fact that we will not be in a position to enter into any formal
understanding v/ith other users until the negotiations that are
being conducted here in Ottawa on the acquisition of nuclear
weapons for Canadian forces are concluded.
I suggest, therefore, that Northag be requested
to invite Canadian representatives to attend the meeting that
he proposes to call and that Mr. Sanderson and representatives
from the Brigade or CJS, London, attend on behalf of Canada. .
