Dear Colleague:
In view of the Council's interest in the status of the
exchange of atomic information, between-the United States and
/7cu./-/q
some of our NATO partners, as reflected in the Annex to CM(60)5,
I am circulating the following brief status report. You will
recall that at the December Ministerial meetings General
Norstad referred to the atomic information exchange agreements
which the United States had concluded with various governments
and that he asked the United States Delegation to look into
the possibility of speeding up the exohange of information under
these agreements.
Shortly after the December Ministerial meetings the United
States Government, concluded, in the case of Germany and the
Netherlands, the actions which we are required by law to take
before we can actually pass atomic information. lam informed
that the initial information needed to train the designated NATO
foroes of Germany and the Netherlands in nuclear weapons has
already been sent to them. I have also been assured that efforts
are being made to complete as quickly as possible the necessary
administrative actions with respect :to Greece and Turkey.
Very truly yours,
