NATO Defenee Planning—Nassa

^-Council Discussion

Attached for your signature, if you agree,
is a Memorandum for the Prime Minister together with
an important telegram to our Permanent Representative
in NATO instructing him to take steps in the
1 NATO Council
to achieve the objectives set out by
the Prime Minister in the House of Commons on
January 25 in respect of decisions concerning Canadian forces in Europe. The telegram instructs our
Permanent Representative to expedite the discussion in Council along certain lines so that the
Canadian Government will be in a position to make
final decisions at the May NATO Ministerial Meeting
in Ottawa concerning the role and armament of
Canadian NATO, assigned forces.
