RECORD OF CABINET DECISION
Meeting of August 16th, 1963.

Nuclear Weapons for the Canadian Forces
(Previous reference August 14)

The Cabinet.(a) approved the exchange of notes and
related documents concerning the provision of
nuclear weapons for the Canadian Forces,
including the text of the public announcement
to be made later that day by the Prime
Minister;
(b) agreed that the Secretary of State
for External Affairs be authorized to sign
the Canadian notes on behalf of the government; and
(c) noted that discussions should be
entered into with the U.S. government
concerning the request by the latter for
permission to store defensive nuclear
weapons at Goose Bay and Harmon Field for
the U.S. air defence squadrons stationed at
those points and agreed that .this matter should
be further considered before the end of
August.
(An order in council in respect of (b) above
was passed accordingly: P.C 1963-1224, Aug. 16).
