NATIONAL DEFENCE
NUCLEAR WEAPONS—ARMING OF U.S. AIRCRAFT
IN CANADA

On the orders of the day:
Mr. Charles M. Drury (St. Anioine-Weslmounl): I wish to direct a question to the
Minister of National Defence. During the
recent Cuban crisis did the United States
government or any of its agencies or the
military forces seek to move into Canada
United States-manned aircraft or nuclear
weapons, or did they further seek permission
to arm with nuclear weapons United States
aircraft already situated on United States
bases in Canada?
Hon. D. S. Harkness (Minister of National
Defence): Mr. Speaker, I recognize these questions as being based on a highly speculative
newspaper article which I hold in my hand,
an article containing a number of inaccuracies and incorrect statements. It has never
been the custom here on orders of the day to
confirm or deny reports of that kind.
(Mr. Fleming (Eglinton).]
