- The United States and the United Kingdom
are preparing a record of the history of AngloAmerican co-operation in the field of atomic energy
since the period of the last war. The idea of such
a record was suggested by Sir Winston Churchill when
he discovered that certain United States legislation
restricting the sharing of Information on atomic
energy might possibly have been avoided had there
been a general awareness in Washington of the
importance of wartime and post-war co-operation
in the field of atomic energy.
Since at least originally this was the
•raison d'etre* of the proposed record, I considered it isqportant to protect Canada's continuing interest in the fostering of co-operation
with the United States and United Kingdom in the
development of atomic energy by ensuring that
appropriate reference be made to Canada*s role
In the history of co-operation in that field.
When I was in London in December, I
broached the matter with Lord Swlnton. Subsequently, Mr. Robertson followed up the Batter
with Lord Cherwell and others, and has now obtained the agreement of the United Kingdom authorities, not only that we should have an opportunity

If you concur, I think the Canadian ambassador; in Washington might now be instructed to make
