CDIM00333. 4 February 1953. "The Current Risks of General War"

This document contains the JIC’s submitted report to the Chiefs of Staff on February 4, 1953 [1]. It is identical to the previous report JIC 64/1 (53) (See CDIM00327), but with edits from the previous version applied to this one. Examples of such changes include the removal of paragraph 3 from the previous document, and also merging paragraphs 10 & 11 into one (paragraph 9 in this document). A notable change is the removal of a footnote that was in paragraph 20, which provided the Directorate of Military Intelligence’s perspective that the Soviet Union would not “intervene on behalf of China if Western effort against China were to be extended to include operations against [Indochina, Formosa or Burma],” and that these Western actions would “not increase the risk of general war.”
